The village of Siasconset is 360 years
old and over the centuries an inimitable charm has evolved. Nashaquisset
is a modern attempt to capture the spirit of Siasconset Village
in a cluster of modern accommodations. The effort has succeeded
far beyond general expectations to the point where even local cynics
are proud of this development. There are 56 two story cottages in
a recreation of an 18th Century fishing village. The Siasconset
cottages have cedar shingle siding and some have a wraparound porch.
Inside you'll find two story living rooms with some of the most
impressive decor of any vacation homes in the U.S., much less New
England where the understated is a way of life. Some have an extra
loft sitting room on the second floor as well as two additional
bedrooms. The windows are strategically placed so the interiors
are light and airy. Decor ranges from the Nantucket style with painted
white wicker and lots of pastel fabrics, offset by a collection
of Portuguese porcelains on the walls, to urban New York. In one
the interior decorator was unleashed to blend French Empire elegance
with the simplicity of New England. Another we saw was "under-decorated"
to accentuate the few quality art pieces over the mantle and hanging
from the two story wall. Each one of these homes has been individually
decorated and there seems to be a keen sense of competition among
owners. There's a quiet pool area and the tennis courts always seem
to be in use. For those who want Malibu luxury transported to the
quaintest of New England shore side villages, this is a "must
see".
Note: Nashaquisset received the highest rating of all
Nantucket properties reviewed. The publication's criteria for a
rating of "10" is...
"Everything is in perfect order. A top-quality,
world class resort. "
