The Nashaquisset Experience, a Homeowner's Perspective

One of the particular charms of Nashaquisset is our diverse community of nearly 100 homeowners. Visitors and friends constantly comment on the vivid home décor and design characteristics of a community drawn from people of many backgrounds. Our homeowners are from nearby Boston, all up and down the East coast of North America and well beyond. Creative types including artists, designers and writers, businesspeople and professionals as well as educators and diplomats all maintain homes or cottages at Nashaquisset and each brings a personal flair to his or her own Nantucket place.

Even though we’re a diverse and eclectic group, we’ve all been drawn to Nashaquisset because of our desire to be a part of a unique Nantucket community. We share a love of beautifully maintained gardens and grounds. We enjoy tennis and swimming right in our own backyards. And we appreciate that our neighbors want to continue to support Nashaquisset traditions for many years to come.

Some of us selectively rent our homes for a few weeks during the summer season. But many of us do not choose to rent, either because we live in Nashaquisset year round, or we spend the summers there or we simply enjoy the flexibility of being able to arrive on island at a moment's notice.

A particularly special time for many Nashaquisset homeowners is our annual gathering each Memorial Day Weekend for a community reunion party. During late May, many people are preparing their homes for the summer rental season. The amount of buffing and shining happening indoors as well as the planting and pruning of flowers going on outside is awesome. It’s evident to all that we really care about our Nashaquisset homes. And we enjoy peeking into each others’ properties each May. Ranging from country cottage style furnished with antiques through the sophisticated contemporary look, each home has its own unique charms.

Many renters return year after year to Nashaquisset and choose a different home or cottage to rent each time. But just as many people fall in love with that perfect Nantucket summer rental property and return to it year after year.
